He received his Bachelor’s degree from the York Mills Collegiate Institute in North York, Pennsylvania, US.
Professional Career
He started his career as a sportswriter in the year 1965 with Chatham Daily News. He was a play-by-play announcer for the Buffalo Sabres radio broadcasts in their inaugural season 1970-71.

He hosted Hockey Night in Canada from the year 1971 to 1987 approximately.
On 14th March 1987, he was the in-studio host as the CBC carried a game between the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs.

After CBC
He quit CBC and moved to Vancouver where he worked as the Sports Director of the radio station CKNW. He served as the host of Vancouver Canucks radio broadcasts.
Similarly, from 1987 to 1990, he was the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the Canadian Football League’s league-run Canadian Football Network.
